Business Administration students and Professor Ramesh Konda at SMTC

Company Tour On Feb 3, 2020

Each term the Business Administration Department at International Technological University organizes a company tour. The tour enhances student learning, provides an example of industry practice and allows students to interact and ask questions of successful business professionals.

On February 3, 2020, many MBA students, along with ITU Professor Dr. Ramesh Konda visited SMTC Corporation in Fremont, California. SMTC is a mid-size provider of end-to-end electronics manufacturing services (EMS) including PCBA production, systems integration, and comprehensive testing services, enclosure fabrication, as well as product design, sustainable engineering and supply chain management services.

SMTC has facilities in the United States, Mexico, China and Canada. The company's managers warmly welcomed the ITU students and gave them a tour. Students saw SMTC’s end-to-end processes, consisting mainly of raw material receiving, stocking in stores, scheduling, manufacturing, quality assurance testing, final assembly, and shipping.

SMTC offers fully integrated contract manufacturing services with a distinctive approach to global original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and emerging technology companies. Their business focus falls primarily within the following market segments: Medical and Safety, Semiconductor, Retail and Payment Systems, Test and Measurement, Industrial, Power and Clean Tech, Telecom, Networking and Communications, and Defense and Aerospace.

Students viewed the SMTC operations, interacted with the staff and engaged in a question and answer session, covering questions on manufacturing, change management, new process adoption, new product introduction, leadership, and management. ITU and Professor Konda would like to thank SMTC and its staff for the tour and the valuable learning experience.
