San Jose, CA - Dr. Neeli Prasad, ITU’s Assistant Chair of Electrical and Computer Engineering Department has been elected to the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers’ (IEEE) Board of Governors for the Vehicular Technology Society (VTS). As Dr. Prasad serves to assist IEEE enact its mission as an IEEE Board member, ITU’s impact on electrical and engineering domains deepens, reinforcing our core ideology to promote global development through Silicon Valley education.

The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) was founded in 1963, but its origins far predate that. It was a convergence of The American Institute of Electrical Engineers (AIEE) founded in 1884 and The Institute of Radio Engineers (IRE) founded in 1912. IEEE’s mission is to foster technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity. Towards this goal, IEEE set a strategic plan in place, which includes leading humanitarian efforts around the world utilizing technology to provide, and host forums that are vital for discussion, development, and dissemination of advanced knowledge related to the exploration of technology.

Dr. Prasad is a security and wireless technology strategist, who through her career has been driving business and technology innovation from incubation to commercialization bringing new products and services to market.

“Throughout my career I have been working across not only a broad set of technologies, but also across different cultures and geographical locations. Based on my experience in both the industry and academia, I bring with me a wide range of qualifications that I will be able to contribute to the VTS Board of Governors,” Dr. Neeli Prasad.

She is also one of the key contributors to the commercialization of WLAN and is the founder and CEO of SPA Solutions, LLC which provides consulting services within network and security, focusing primarily on the automotive field. Dr. Prasad is an accomplished writer, having published two books and over 170 peer-reviewed papers, some of which have won accolades and awards. Dr. Prasad belongs to the Advisory Boards for MONICA Project and ARMOUR H2020 Project both funded by the European Commission. She holds a Ph.D and Masters of Science in Electrical Engineering from University of Rome. “I have managed many multi-stakeholder projects during my work-life and I am familiar with the inner working of IEEE and surrounding communities whether it is in developing new activities or supporting existing ones such as what I have done on the marketing side for COMSOC GIMS attracting new members and broadening diversity.” Dr. Neeli Prasad.

Dr. Prasad states that she has not seen a transformation in technology as great as the change in the automotive industry. Being part of the Board of Governors, she would have a great opportunity to support further initiatives in machine learning, sensor fusion, and communication technologies that will help reach the peak of safety for self-driving vehicles. With her help, the VTS will further transform the whole automotive sector and further cement IEEE’s importance in technological innovation.

Please help us congratulate Dr. Prasad on her election to the Board of Governors and we look forward to her leadership for the Vehicular Technological Society and the IEEE.
